The Scion marque of autos is part of Toyota's plan to appeal to Generation Y consumers. The marketing folks at Toyota realized that the brand's somewhat stodgy image would likely be somewhat of a bust with the youth market. To overcome this, they created a whole new brand, one that is designed specifically to cater to the youngest, hippest car buyers. Scion cars are known for offering cheap price tags, edgy looks and outstanding sound systems. The very first Scions were revealed to the public at the 2002 New York Auto Show. One was a concept vehicle that was based on the Toyota bB--the Scion bbX. Another was a 3-door coupe, the unique and creative Scion ccX. A full rollout took place in February of 2004. A new generation of the xB was birthed in 2006, and it had its roots in the t2B concept that was created by Matthew Verbin, a leading name in the motorsports scene. The xD, which took the place of the retired xA, was unveiled in 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show. Upcoming Scions will no doubt take their cue from the singular Hako concept, which was unveiled at the 2008 New York Auto Show.
