Car Radiators

Auto Parts 123 and Parts Plus Auto Store Advantages!

A car radiator works to keep the auto's engine block from overheating. As a motor runs, its moving parts create friction which, in turn, creates heat. The car's radiator system delivers cooling water and antifreeze to the pistons and cylinders, which would otherwise seize up and cease to work altogether. It is specifically designed with accordion-like folds in order to create the maximum possible surface area while taking up the minimum amount of space beneath the hood.

After the radiator fluid has been delivered to the car's engine block to help cool it, the fluid is pushed back out via a large rubber hose. This hose must be inspected regularly, as any signs of wear and tear, such as cracks or decay near its connecting lip, can signal the potential for serious mechanical problems down the road for the engine. Because the coolant fluids that return to the car radiator from the engine block are extremely hot, this hose will eventually wear down. Even though a belt-and-fan system draws this excess heat out of the car, it's not quite enough to cool the radiator off completely. Thus, drivers must pay particularly close attention to these parts when performing visual engine inspections to determine if any parts are in need of replacement.
