Auto Radiator Fans

Auto Parts 123 and Parts Plus Auto Store Advantages!

Radiator fans help to propel air through the cooling system of a car when it's idling or traveling at speeds that aren't high enough for the velocity of the vehicle to create enough ventilation on its own. The purpose of the air flow is to keep the antifreeze or water/coolant mixture in the radiator at the lowest possible temperature, so it has the greatest possible cooling effect when it courses through the hot engine block.

The moving parts in the engine block, mostly comprised of pistons and cylinders which fire to propel the car forward, are in constant friction, which generates excess heat. This heat must be expelled from the motor, or the engine will overheat, seize up or suffer similar serious damage. Frequently attached to the shaft of the engine's water pump, radiator fans are normally designed with either four or six blades and are often of the variable-speed variety.

Types of Radiator Fans

A variable speed radiator fan raises and lowers its RPMs as necessary in order to conserve torque and horsepower in the engine and reduce noise. A variant of the variable speed model is the flexible blade radiator fan, which generates force around a centrifuge and automatically flattens out the fan blades when they aren't needed, removing them from use.
